25 things life has taught me - Birthday Reflection
I always reflect around this time of the year, my birthday is very special to me and I am always studying myself and finding ways to evolve each and every year. I turned 25 on May 11th 🥂 This age is weird to me because sometimes I feel like I'm running out of time, and other days I feel like I have enough time, so why rush?
This are the things life has taught me:
Family isn't always family: LISTEN, I could write a book about this. I've learned to stop putting family members on a pedestal just because they're "family". If they have not helped me evolve and become a better human being, if all they do is bring negativity, i would rather stay away from them and you should too!
I'm in control: I am in control of my emotions, my feelings, who I date, who I keep around me... I'm in control because this is my life. I no longer people please! I have become better at saying 'NO' and not feel bad about it and it feels amazing being in control of my life.
Take Risks: Getting out of my comfort zone has brought me many opportunities and being a risk taker has made me a better person.
Mental Health: Prioritizing my mental heath and investing in therapy has been one of the best decisions i have made in my adulthood. Life can be so hectic, we all need a licensed individual to talk to.
It's okay to be alone: I always felt the need to have someone after being in a relationship for 7 years. Truth is, It's okay to be alone for a while to get to know yourself until you find the right person for you.
Reach out for help: Don't be afraid to reach out for help when you need it. We need people in our lives and the right individuals will help you when you're feeling stuck.
The company you keep is important: This is self explanatory. You don't want to have the wrong people near you and I know it gets tricky into finding out who deserves a seat at your table, but trust me your spirit will always tell you and guide you.
Follow you intuition: THIS IS HUGE! I have always followed my intuition because it never fails me. I also believe that is God speaking to me though the Holy Spirit and that is why I always do what feels right for me.
There is more than one way to do something: Never go with the first option, always seek other ways because it could save your life and/or save you lots of money.
It's okay to outgrow friendships: I always thought my friends from my early 20's were going to be my friends "forever" but that was a lie. Not everyone will move up with you and that is okay. Real friends will always have your back no matte what.
Take care of your skin: Find a skin care routine that works for you and do it everyday and every night. The only way your makeup will look flawless is if you take care of your skin.
Embrace your natural beauty: I felt more like myself when I loc'd my hair and started rocking my natural and i must say that is something I appreciate more now that I am older.
Don’t make excuses for people who aren’t pulling their weight. So if a guy texts you every day but never wants to hang out, you’re not actually important to him. Move on.
Be yourself: Embrace your uniqueness and don't let anyone dim your light. The haters will always try to do so.
Don't settle: If a guy isn't applying pressure and going above and beyond for you, he isn't worth it. Be with someone who values you.
Travel: Have fun, travel and experience new things. Live life don't let life live you.
Work smart not hard: The older get the less i stress myself about work because I know it will get done.
Education is important: Go to school and get your degree because It will be worth it in the end. It's always great to have options.
Entrepreneurship isn't for everybody: If you want to work at your 9-5 and still be an entrepreneur, do that!
You don’t owe anyone an explanation. If someone doesn’t understand the reasoning behind your actions, you do not have to justify them. It’s your business, and yours alone.
Drink water: Please do, water is essential to life and I wish I would've understood this more younger.
Find multiple streams of income: Use your talents and find ways to make money with them. I promise it's so easy!
Read your bible: A life changer, I can't go a day without reading it. God will always speak to you through it and give you the word you need.
Pour to yourself: Watch motivational videos, listen to positive podcasts, learn new skills and really try to only pour positive things into your daily routine.
Record your memories: Photos, videos, journals, you don’t have to record everything to the point where you’re missing the moment, but have something you can look back on later and smile about. I have so many journals throughout my life and I love taking a trip down memory lane.
Can you relate to any of these? if so, which one stood out to you?
